Assistant Director

The Stigler Center is looking for an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director leads management of all Stigler Center events; develops and manages event budgets, including monitoring and reconciling accounts; develops and implements office procedures and policies; manages and provides strategic vision for Stigler Center communications (e.g. website, social media, and event coverage)..

The Assistant Director leads management (planning, implementation, promotion, reporting) of all Stigler Center events, including academic conferences, student/alumni events and programs, and more. Develops and manages event budgets, including monitoring and reconciling accounts. Develops and implements office procedures and policies. Manages and provides strategic vision for Stigler Center communications (e.g. website, social media, and event coverage). Works closely with multiple departments and partners at Chicago Booth to manage joint initiatives. Researches, compiles and analyzes data to create reports, proposals and other documents including but not limited to financial and regular reports for the Stigler Center.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master preferred
  • A minimum of two years of project coordination experience required.
  • Experience with event or program management required.
  • At least two years of relevant communications experience preferred.
  • Social media experience preferred.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter and a commitment to professional growth required.
  • Resourcefulness, creativity and exceptional organizational skills required.
  • Proven ability to work independently required.
  • A sense of humor and the ability to work well within a team of highly motivated individuals required.
  • Experience and understanding of database management, reporting and basic data analyses required.
  • Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, ask questions as necessary and meet deadlines under pressure required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Outstanding professional/interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts required.
  • Knowledge of the Chicago Booth and/or the University of Chicago preferred.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality, and a strong customer service orientation required.
  • Proven office computer skills required: e.g., MS Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Familiarity with HTML preferred.
  • Knowledge of content management systems such as Sitecore or Wordpress preferred.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Dreamweaver preferred.
  • Willingness to occasionally work/travel evenings and weekends during conferences/events required.

Senior Editor

The Senior Editor will have full editorial responsibility for all content published on the center's blog, ProMarket.org, and will be responsible for one Writer/Editor as a direct report.

The Senior Editor will have full editorial responsibility for all content published on the center's blog and will be responsible for one Writer/Editor as a direct report. Supervision would include assigning writing projects, general guidance and editorial responsibilities for their work. Assist and attend at all major Stigler Center events including creating and endorsing the online promotional content.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Full editorial responsibility for all content published on the blog.
  • Supervise and direct work of Writer/Editor.
  • Coordinate on all publications and timing with Senior Associate Director
  • Prepare bimonthly editorial plan of all content. Tweak it during the months according to current events, news.
  • Coordinate with the editorial board on the topics to promote, the relevant Stigler-related academic papers, stories, and interviews for the blog.
  • Work closely with the blog Writer/Editor, assign his writing tasks, guide him, and edit his posts.
  • Work with the Stigler Center's Research Professionals to improve the graphics of the blog.
  • Make sure all Stigler events, talks, working papers, and conferences are promoted and covered.
  • Encourage academics to write for the blog and assist them if needed in preparing their posts.
  • Make sure there are at least three posts per week and have own posts ready to be published in case of any last-minute need.
