Giving Back

Whether or not they choose to work in the social impact sector, there are ample opportunities for Chicago Booth alumni to make an impact on the issues they care about.

The Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation has developed a suite of programs and events aimed at equipping Booth alumni to give back in meaningful ways. In particular, the Rustandy Center offers programs and events around two main areas: nonprofit board service and nonprofit executive coaching.

Nonprofit Board Service

Serving on a nonprofit board of directors can be a rewarding way for alumni to put their business acumen and experience to work for a social, environmental, or cultural issue they care about. In addition, nonprofit board service provides ample opportunities for alumni to build leadership skills and grow their personal and professional networks.

Alumni Board Connect

The Rustandy Center offers a matching program called Alumni Board Connect, which connects Booth alumni with nonprofits who are looking for new board members, as well as an annual conference on nonprofit board service called On Board. Both On Board and Alumni Board Connect are open to alumni in Chicago, New York City, and the Twin Cities.

Nonprofits who have participated in On Board or Alumni Board Connect include:

  • The Ounce of Prevention
  • Chicago Cares
  • Spark
  • One Goal
  • The Cara Program

The On Board Conference on Nonprofit Board Service

On Board, hosted by the Rustandy Center at Chicago Booth, brings together students, alumni, and nonprofit leaders to discuss key trends and best practices in nonprofit board service.

On Board is organized to speak to varying levels of professional expertise and highlight issues common among nonprofit organizations and their associated boards of directors. On Board conferences are held annually in Chicago, New York City, and the Twin Cities.
