Social Impact Leaders on College Graduation and Public Health
December 2, 2014
The Social Enterprise Initiative (SEI) at Chicago Booth School of Business is pleased to announce the Social Impact Leadership Series (SILS) speakers scheduled for Winter Quarter.
On February 18, SEI looks forward to welcoming OneGoal for a discussion on college persistence and the role of external evaluation in determining social impact. On March 4, SEI will present a conversation on public health with the Lake Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic, which seeks to bring sustainable health care to residents in the remote areas along central Africa’s Lake Tanganyika.
SILS events, sponsored by John Edwardson, ’72, and supported by the class of 2004’s reunion year gift, bring six prominent speakers to campus annually to talk with students, alumni, and the larger community about issues in the social sector.
At February’s SILS, entitled “Unlocking College Persistence: A Data-Driven Model that Works,” CEO and cofounder of OneGoal, Jeff Nelson, ’14, will discuss OneGoal’s efforts to make college graduation possible for all students through the nation's only teacher-led college persistence organization. Nelson will be joined by Jenny Nagaoka of University of Chicago for an exploration of the results of OneGoal’s recent external evaluation performed by Tim Kautz of UChicago’s Center for Economics of Human Development, directed by Nobel laureate James Heckman and Wladimir Zanoni of Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago.
The event will be held on February 18 at Gleacher Center from 6 – 7:30 p.m., with a networking reception to follow. Register to attend Unlocking College Persistence: A Data-Driven Model that Works »

The LTFHC aims to bring better access to health care to more than three million people living along the remote, landlocked lake in central Africa through a hospital ship, among other medical interventions.
