2008 US Monetary Policy Forum

February 29, 2008-New York, N.Y.

This annual conference brings together academics, market economists and policymakers. The conference is co-sponsored by the Initiative on Global Markets at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Brandeis University International Business School.


The conference began with this year's report, "Leveraged Losses: Lessons from the Mortgage Market Meltdown," which was prepared by David Greenlaw (Morgan Stanley), Jan Hatzius (Goldman Sachs), Anil Kashyap (Chicago Booth) and Hyun Shin (Princeton). To view the original report, click here.

The report was discussed by Frederic Mishkin (Federal Reserve Board of Governors) and Eric Rosengren (Federal Reserve Bank of Boston) discussed the report. See remarks by FOMC members and others:

This year's keynote address by Vincent Reinhart and was titled "The Governance, Communication, and Conduct of Federal Reserve's Monetary Policy."

The meeting concluded with a panel discussion on "Balancing Financial Stability, Price Stability, and Macroeconomic Stability: How Important is Moral Hazard?" featuring Charles Evans (Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago), Peter Hooper (Deutsche Bank), William Poole (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis), and Kenneth West (University of Wisconsin).
