Jan Hatzius Jan Hatzius

Jan Hatzius, managing director and chief U.S. economist for Goldman Sachs, is based in the New York office, where he is responsible for setting the firm's U.S. economic and interest rate outlook. Hartzius holds the 2009 Lawrence R. Klein Award for Blue Chip Forecast Accuracy for the most accurate U.S. economic forecast over the prior four years. He was also ranked first in the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg 2009 forecasting contests, as well as in the Institutional Investor 2009 ranking of economists by fixed income investors. Hatzius is a member of the Congressional Budget Office’s Panel of Economic Advisers as well as the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Economic Advisory Panel.

Hatzius joined Goldman Sachs in the Frankfurt office in 1997 and transferred to New York in 1999. He became a managing director in 2004 and a partner in 2008. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Hatzius was a research officer at the London School of Economics. He holds an economics doctorate from Oxford University and degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
