New courses in Energy
GEOS 24705 Energy: Science, Technology and Human Usage
This course covers the technologies by which humans appropriate energy for industrial and societal use, from steam turbines to internal combustion engines to photovoltaics. We will also discuss the physics and economics of the resulting human energy system: fuel sources and relationship to energy flows in the Earth system, modeling and simulation of energy production and use. (Course Instructor - E. Moyer)
50400. Science, Technology, and Policy
This course is an introduction to several aspects of science policy including briefings on (a) topics including climate change, cyber security, nuclear policy and bio-ethics; (b) institutions funding and effecting science policies including the U.S. National Laboratories, NSF, science museums, and congressional oversight committees; (c) a few fundamentals of science that influence policy. (Course Instructors: Michael, Kolb)
