The Applied Theory Initiative

ATI was established at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in January 2009. The primary purpose of the initiative is to bring together faculty from a variety of disciplines—including accounting, behavioral science, economics, finance, marketing, operations and political science—whose research makes use of similar theoretical tools in:

  • Optimization
  • Incentives
  • Price Theory
  • Game Theory

To this end, the Applied Theory Initiative promotes two programs. First, the Workshop on Applied Theory, is a weekly seminar during the Fall and Spring quarters that features internal and external researchers working on significant topics in applied theory. Second, a year-round Visiting Fellows program hosts several weeklong visits from applied theorists outside the University of Chicago who are leaders in their respective fields. The Applied Theory Initiative welcomes the involvement of faculty with shared interests from other departments and schools across the University of Chicago.
